Get the Government out of Marriage
First, I must make it clear my position, and the Libertarian Party's position, which is that the government should stay out of marriage. You should not have to get a marriage license in order to get married.
Gay marriage is becoming a politically charged issue. The charge is spreading hatred all over the various forms of media. Whether you are for gay marriage or against gay marriage Libertarianism is for both. We should not be delegating our religion, morality and character to governments around the world. Get the government out of our lives.
In a Libertarian world, you can be against gay marriage and not have to bake their wedding cakes. You own your religion and you own your business as well.
However, I must appeal to the reason of my dear friends, many who are Christians that oppose gay marriage. I personally grew up with many people in the LGBT community. One man was gay during my entire soccer career and we had no idea until he left for college. I hate it when people can't be real and that is why I write this, to be real with you. I couldn't care less what a person does in their bedroom and if marriage is what they want to do, then do it!
Now, I am from a very conservative area and understand the history of the sacred union we call marriage. It has been held high for thousands of years and I only ask Christians to let God weigh the severity of our sin. Everyone sins and we do it everyday. However, does the sin of lusting for someone who lusts for you cause more hate in the world or less? What about the equalizer of sin? Mercy. God wishes us to demonstrate mercy. If two people commit themselves to each other with a belief in God and with sacred honor. Who are we to tell them otherwise? None of us are God and we should let God be the judge.
For example, adulatory is far more damaging to a community, a family, and the spouse unaware of the act. I have even heard the argument that gay persons should just suck it up. They should get married to the opposite sex, raise a family and refuse to sin. What about the other spouse who won't be loved to the same degree? What about the sickness that will hover over the home which these children will be raised? A sickness I define as a lack of complete commitment to the family and the spouse.
